2014 – CONFERENCE: HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION

In December 2014, we at CSR HELLAS, in cooperation with the Global Compact Network Hellas, organized an event with the name “Human Rights and the Fight against Corruption”, in the framework of celebrating the 10th anniversary since the adoption of the 10th Principle of the UN Global Compact against Corruption. The event took place with the support of the office of the National Rapporteur for the Fight on Trafficking of Human Beings of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with co-organizers being the Greek-American Chamber and Transparency International Greece.

The aim of the event was to inform, raise awareness and mobilize people for joint action and opinion exchange regarding the 10th Principle.

Participants in the event consisted of 150 business executives, members of academic bodies as well as Civil Society representatives, who were given the opportunity to learn about private sector initiatives for the protection of Human Rights and the fight against corruption from experts in the field.

At the beginning of the event, the opening of NGO Praksis’ exhibition on the topic of Human Trafficking took place, while later on the corporate partnership initiative “Call to Action for Anti-Corruption” was presented for the first time in Greece, through which the UN encouraged businesses to put pressure on governments to assume coordinated action that will aim at combating corruption. In this framework, the President of CSR HELLAS and Global Compact Network Hellas, Maria Alexiou, addressed the attending business representatives to “unite their voices and strength”, noting the need to recognize the phenomenon of human trafficking and exploitation as a new form of violating human rights.
